Anti-fog, optics and visors
Durable Plasma Anti-Fog Treatment in Canada: Test Results and FAQ
The short answer
Yes. Kalego Solutions, in Quebec City (Canada), offers a plasma anti-fog treatment for visors, lenses and optics. The surface becomes hydrophilic: vapour spreads into a clear film instead of forming droplets that scatter light. Developed from Université Laval research and tested at CHU de Québec for endoscopy, the technology is designed to withstand disinfection and sterilization cycles.

Treatment and testing
Fog disappears when water spreads instead of beading
Fog is made of micro-droplets. Each one acts like a tiny lens and scatters light: vision clouds over.
Plasma makes the surface strongly hydrophilic and bonds a functional layer to it. Water vapour can no longer form droplets: it spreads into a continuous, transparent film that light passes through without scattering.
The treatment runs at atmospheric pressure, with no vacuum chamber and no solvent. It is done in our Quebec City facility, or integrated into your line for high volumes.
Spray, wipe or plasma: what lasts
| Criterion | Anti-fog spray or wipe | Kalego plasma treatment |
|---|---|---|
| What does the work | A layer applied by hand | The surface itself, modified and functionalized |
| Duration | A few hours, then reapply | Designed to last, no reapplication |
| Disinfection and sterilization | Reapply after every cleaning | Designed to withstand them |
| Application | By the user, variable result | In the factory, controlled and documented |
| Substrates | Depends on the product | PC, PMMA, optical glass, BK7, sapphire |
For optics that must never fog up
Medical optics
Endoscopes and devices where clarity is critical, exposed to disinfection and sterilization cycles.
Visors, masks and goggles
Personal protection, sports and leisure: vision stays clear under exertion and temperature changes.
Refrigerated displays
And other transparent surfaces exposed to condensation, where fog hides what must stay visible.
Test results, measured on your parts
Anti-fog durability depends on the substrate, the disinfectant and the number of cycles. Rather than a general figure, we measure it on your own optics.

A technology recognized by public research
Université Laval
The technology comes from its research labs on atmospheric plasmas.
CHU de Québec
Testing of the anti-fog technology for endoscopy, presented by the CRCHU de Québec in July 2023.
Mitacs
2024 Mitacs Innovation Award for the anti-fog treatment of medical devices, followed by a Mitacs article on endoscopy in February 2025.
Acfas

Common questions about plasma anti-fog
Is plasma anti-fog treatment permanent?
It is bonded to the surface and designed to last, unlike a spray that wears off within hours. Its exact durability depends on the substrate and your cleaning cycles: that is why we measure it on your own parts before any commitment.
Does it withstand disinfection and sterilization?
It is designed to withstand the disinfection and sterilization cycles of medical optics, such as endoscopes. We verify this with your actual agents and cycles during the trial.
Which materials does it work on?
Transparent surfaces: plastics such as polycarbonate (PC) and PMMA, glass, BK7 optical glass and sapphire.
For which products?
Endoscope optics and medical devices, protective or sports visors, masks and goggles, refrigerated displays and other transparent surfaces exposed to condensation.
Where is the treatment done?
In our Quebec City facility, as a toll service, with no investment on your side. For high volumes, the treatment equipment can be integrated into your line.
Is the service available outside Quebec?
Yes. Kalego Solutions serves manufacturers in Canada and the United States from its Quebec City lab.
Where is Kalego Solutions located?
In Quebec City, Canada. The company has designed, built and tested its equipment there since it was founded at Université Laval in 2019.
Does it require a vacuum chamber?
No. The treatment runs at atmospheric pressure, with no vacuum chamber and no solvent.
How do I get my visors or lenses tested?
Describe your parts and cleaning cycles in the form. An expert replies within 48 business hours; the first evaluation is free with no commitment.
